Tripindi Shradh

Tripindi Shraddha is the Pind Daan procedure performed on the ancestors of the previous three generations when regular Shraddh has been discontinued for three consecutive years for various reasons. Tripindi Shraddh is a ceremony that offers food and water to the souls of departed parents and ancestors, similar to how any Shraddh is pefromed to offer food and water to the Pitru devatas. The regular Shraddh is performed, limiting the ancestors to three generations: Pitru (Father), Pitamah (Grandfather), and Pitamah (Grandmother) (Great grandfather). Tripindi shraddha appeases Pitrus from generations before these.

Objective:

• This is done to help souls trapped in the netherworld achieve Moksha.
• This rite, performed once every twelve years, can help clear the Pitru Rin more effectively.
• If the Janma Patrika (horoscope) shows Pitrudosh (defects caused by pitrus on the father’s side), the individual should perform this rite even if the parents are still alive.
